Welcome! Our meeting is held in the main Hall at the Cause centre which is in fact the original Chippenham Quaker Meeting House and dates back to the 17th Century.
In 1830 the building was acquired by John Wesley's Methodist movement and a chapel was built in the Gothic style.
Over time this fell into disuse and dereliction. In 2002 The Chapel was bought, renovated and transformed into a Community Music and Arts centre - The Cause.
It wasn't long before it's history came back full circle when after the Quaker meeting at Bradford on Avon became so large it was decided that some members would leave in order to create a new Chippenham meeting which eventually found itself back in the old meeting house room at The Cause!
Quaker focus is on experience rather than written statements of belief. Meetings are held in silence to help discover a deeper sense of God’s presence within the world and ourselves.
Quakers vary in their beliefs. Many are Christian. Some follow other faiths and there are some who are atheists.
Quakers have a long history of working for peace, disarmament, prison reform, the abolition of slavery, women's suffrage and much more.
